Sheila's Musings

Image
The last time Sheila ever felt loved—intense, soul-wrenching, heart-thumping love was in the period between 2007 – 2011. She was just 19 and he was 21. He didn’t have money to give her and she didn’t even want money, she wanted just him—and he did love her. It was obvious in the way he treated her. In the way he looked at her. She knew it deep down in her soul that he loved her until he didn’t because he cheated and made it so obvious—she almost died. It was excruciatingly painful… But two years later, she moved on. In her service year, in 2013, she met someone else. He was so caring. Very loving. Everything she could ever want in a man. It was all so beautiful, but he was so insecure. He would check her phones and read her chats, but she didn’t mind because she had nothing to hide. Until she found out she was the side chick and took her L with pride and moved on. Fast forward to Dami in 2015. She needs to tell you his name because he was the only one who ever did right by h...

Books for You This Lockdown Period

Image
Following the announcement by President Buhari last night, a lot of us will be indoors for the next fourteen days. This can turn out to be a very boring time seeing as we can't visit anyone and we are not allowed to leave our houses. I have curated a list of amazingly interesting books that can keep you busy during this period and for those who find it difficult to read, I have added some audiobooks as well. Now, you can listen to your favourite stories while doing other things. See the list below: The Girl with the Louding Voice - Abi Dare A powerful, emotional debut novel told in the unforgettable voice of a young Nigerian woman who is trapped in a life of servitude but determined to fight for her dreams and choose her own future. Adunni is a fourteen-year-old Nigerian girl who knows what she wants: an education. This, her mother has told her, is the only way to get a “louding voice”—the ability to speak for herself and decide her own future. But i...

AWOOF DEY RUN BELLE: The Story of a Lasgidi Babe and Her Oshofree Wig

I have this not so hilarious story that I would like you to read. It has been a while since I last posted something on here. I apologise. I have just been so swamped with work. It happened on a Wednesday. I left the office with my office bestie, Mariam and together we strolled to the GTBank ATM close to the office after close of business. We had intentions of getting something nice for ourselves. Mariam wanted to buy a new handbag while I had been craving a new wig so bad. We always boarded the same bus because I stayed at Iyana-Ipaja at the time, while she lives in Abule-Egba. So, after withdrawing our shopping fee from the ATM, we boarded a bus going to Oshodi.   When we got to Oshodi, I pleaded with Mariam to please allow us use the pedestrian bridge—she preferred to cross the road. Lo and behold, as soon as we got up the bridge, there to my excitement, was this woman who displayed her goods of wigs in their varying lengths, types and colours. I was excited but Mariam w...

FRIENDSHIP

FRIENDSHIP Friendship is the basis of every human relationship. To truly know anyone, we need to first be their friend. And this was what led to the beginning of a lasting friendship with this young man Temitayo. The fact that I wanted to get to know him. I had gone to a bar that evening after work on a Friday just to unwind. I do not drink so I settled for a cup of chapman and ordered fried shrimps to munch on as I sipped my drink. I glanced across the room and saw this young man sitting alone at the corner, quietly sipping his “33” export lager beer from a glass. The bottle stood admiringly on the table and the beer glistened in the glass and occasionally, the disco light in the bar bounced off his glass of beer. I looked on in admiration as he laughed and smiled at his phone. I wondered who it was he was chatting with and what it was they were discussing that amused him so much. The waiter came with my bill, but I was not ready to leave so I ordered a bottle of “33” expor...

A THANKFUL HEART

From January to December, We had so many trials, Many tribulations come our ways, Yet we are still standing, Thousand of souls were lost, Millions of disasters here and there, Yet God protected us, Many are gone to the under world, Many destinies buried in the graves, Many started January with us but no more, Yet we are still alive, Let us give GOD our thankful heart, He is our protector, Let us give GOD our thanks, For without Him we shall be no more, Every moment of our lives,  Should be full of thanks, With life, there is hope! Never Cry!

I hear the bird singing, I can see the moon smiling, I can see the booming of the wind, I can see the star glittering, I can see the plate dancing, While spoons and forks are clapping, All to the sweet music of life, Never cry, wipe your tears, Never loose hope, You are born to win, Never give up to challenges of life, Never relent, you surely get there, The challenges of today, Is a stepping stone to your greatness, Your stars will forever shine, Just be patient and wait for your time, Never cry again, your success is at hand!
